How to be a great presenter

This is mostly for solo-presenters, but can also work for panels. Keep it brief.

TELL GREAT SHORT STORIES.

  • How do you know if your story is great? If nothing changes, it isn’t a story.

    • “Oh yea, the other day, I was getting work done on my computer, then i went to beach…hell of a day”. Is not a story.

  • To make a story, state the original reality, build tension, and release tension.

  • I thought I was a great podcast guest, until I learned a simple trick (WHAT IS THE TRICK?)

  • Before i learned the trick, I would go on podcasts, tell people about myself, and then leave. I had a good time, but the podcasts never resonated.  Nobody cared that I did work and went to the beach.

  • The simple trick is: give people fun facts or hacks that they can visualize and bring to their friends.

    • Sometimes the fact is weird like “did you know saudi arabia gets their sand from Australia?”

      • Fit the odd fact into a boring story, and people will remember it.

    • Sometimes the hack is obvious like “if you increase the speed of your mouse, you can increase your productivity by 5%”.

      • Fit the hack into a boring story, and people will remember it.

    • But Everytime, people can share that info with their friends and become more valuable.

  • Once you know the simple trick, you can bring it everywhere and tell everyone.
